I agree that this 'practice' could have been widespread and could also have contributed to the difficulties we face today. We know also that shipping by ocean freight had similar difficulties and anything loose had a high probability of evaporating; either on board ship, or in the ports on both ends.

I'm sure this issue existed. But to me it doesn't matter. The value of this thread it to identify what is correct for various years/models, not to identify what came in any specific car. If a dealer in Indiana gave his customer the incorrect tool bag, it's really irrelevant to me.

I am certainly sympathetic to the notion that knowing what was supposed to be in the car is valuable to our group. I do not necessarily disagree.

However, the same could have happened at the factory, especially at the end/beginning of any model run.

Either way, assorted minutia is part of the "collector" scene in many cases.

Thanks for tolerating the un-scholarly input.

"Un-scholarly" pretty much defines every post I've ever made!

It absolutely happened. I had the second T2 speedster built; '58 my. But it had the high T1 rear deck release and high striker doors along with the then new location of the heater control knob and the new short bend shift lever. It was a steel panel GT. Also I've seen more than a few late '59 A cars with the T5B backup light boss stamped on the rear valance. These were behind the bumper and hard to see. But with the B bumper being higher they were in the right spot. They were probably running out of the A valance and just used the new B. There's more but I can't recall all of them. Any way with something as portable as a tool kit I'm sure they were not too focused on correctness as long as a car got a kit.

    Thank you
That bag is a 356C/SC bag. Could it have come with your 65 911? It's quite possible.

Thank you everyone for the information. I’m guessing the tool bag was original to the car because the car was in a barn since the early 1970s but anything is possible.
