Said Goodbye To An Old Friend Yesterday...

After 27 years my old BMW 3.0 CSL is headed to a new home, or rather a full circle: I sold it back to the guy I bought it from!

Last year he tracked me down with the pitch, and though I've loved this car, it's purpose was track use. Not a comfortable street car. The original Mahle BBS wheels are shod with rock-hard XWX's which it wore at shows.

Cosmetically it is still almost exactly how it came to me. I stripped the suspension off and restored the mechanicals, did some engine tweaks. It's a twenty footer with tight and capable underpinnings.

Anyway, since 1993 I've only driven it about 2600 miles, nearly all on track. Still sad to see it go, but happy where it's going and treated to a full restoration (which it needs) in the near future.

All the spares included helped clear some shelf space, too!

    Russ,

I'm sure it was hard, although you still have the other coupe right? After owning a coupe for about 25-30 years, I reluctantly sold mine last year. They are IMHO one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Keep the other one!

I remember that you sold yours, Scott... yes, the Baikal coupe seen in the photo is a keeper. Thanks, Chuck, it was a fun 27 years.

As to being hard to sell the CSL? I didn't really use it anymore, and the plan is to get down to 7 cars anyway... plus I want an old Italian to round out all the German stuff.

But I'm also pleased it's going to receive a full resto in the hands of it's previous owner. The full circle thing has good juju.

I figured I would get a correction. As a former owner of one, I should at least get partial points!
