Importance cleaning case after media / vapour blasting

    Dear all,

I started a thread that changed direction and thought it could be interesting.....

It is about being fully aware to clean and removing blast media if a case has been media/vapour blasted / cleaned.

I started removing oil gallery plugs (and oil squirters)

Just have a look and see the importance

Clearly one can see the what happened in the oil squirter after removing (drilling) the cap off.

Picture of what came out of the main oil gallery. The other galleries were the same story!

just a warning for those who believe there case is clean(ed) after vapour / media blasting.

    Cheers,
    Bart

I do not blast any engine part with abrasives.
I do not use any engine parts that were blasted with abrasives.
Shot peening of rockers/rods etc. (parts without cavities) is ok.
Only tumbling is ok for me, but even then with ultrasonic cleaning / pressure washing / ultrasonic cleaning / pressure washing / ultrasonic cleaning / pressure washing ...

Exactly. If you rebuild your engine, it’s wise to remove those alu plugs and make sure all debris, old oil residue is gone or it might show up later.

I fully agree and never did it myself either, however bought this small spigot 7R case to build high performance engine.
After receiving case found out that vapour blasting is not only vapour but also abrasives.....

Confident to get everything out, will only be a lot of (extra) work.
