    Lower valve cover questions

    Hi All,
A couple of questions related to lower valve covers:

    1) Can these be removed without excessive loss of oil. So without draining the sump?

    2) What is the correct finish on a 1968 car - plain metal or painted black?

    Thanks, Richard

Yes, just jack up the side of the car you want to remove cover from. I may be wrong, but I think 68 had a natural mag finish.

You can also put a piece of cardboard over the heat exchangers to deflect the oil and prevent it from getting into them.
