    i have a friend with a 10/70 car, with the lock in the center.
    my car is about 45 cars before his...also 10/70, with the lock to the side.

    Current long term ownership: 63 Cab, 71 911, 74 914

    So it appears that the actual change was in October, and could be a little back & forth regards the VIN. This seems to be similar to the change of fuel pump location at about the same time. It would be interesting to track this change with at least the VIN and perhaps the production #. Such information can be sent to me for tracking. It might be advantageous to check fuel pump location and the glovebox lock position together. Here is the fuel pump location thread:

    Mine was built 12/70, VIN 936, it has a centered lock
    ESR member 4002

    I wonder if there is a difference between euro spec, LHD and RHD, and USA Spec??

    RHD may affect the change. Back at the 65 to 66 transition the flat knee pad was still used in a few early 1966 cars as they were using up 1965 RHD bodies. So it is possible that the stock of parts could alter the date of change; but could be earlier as well as later, or have no influence at all.
