    big alu tank

I'm getting ready to spiff up this tank and wanted to share with this community what I believe is a work of art. This is from a '69 GTS I'm restoring and I have never seen anything like it. 36 separate pieces of aluminum welded to create a 100 liter tank. Someone at the factory had waaaay too much time on their hands. Enjoy viewing.Name: P1040966.jpg

Fascinating tank. The other three GTS’s that were built all had plastic tanks. This one is the earlier prototype GTS with some SWB features, so I wondered why the aluminum tank here and why the subsequent switch?

So, it's the only one ever made and by the factory?

I have a strange one I've never been able to identify. It was sold to me as an RSK tank, but I've never been able to match it up. It follows the contour of an original 550A hood but the hole is in the wrong place. Maybe a one off, either Factory or privateer.

This GTS was a factory research car from June '68 to September '69. The reasons I believe the tank to be a factory fabrication is as follows. 100 liter sending unit dated 2/69. Large filler and aluminum cap. 356A-B tank straps spot welded together for a proper big tank hold down. Absolutely perfect fit. As far as "looks a bit rough" adds to its one-off appeal.Name: P1040970.jpg

There might be some details or even photographs there of the car being used or built

Bold claims. I'm a fan of historical photo evidence. Would love it to be true though.

    .
It’s a documented GTS, and he posted the letters from Porsche before. There’s period photos too. There’s a few differences from the later GTS’s as those were purely lwb features and his has some SWB features like vent windows and rear tail lights.
