Mine is gold on my '71 Targa but I believe that it was part of an upgraded package along with the rear engine lid lettering.

My 71 is also gold along with the rear, is a T with S trim options, not sure when the switched away from gold as std as is on my 67 912 SWT ROW.

Thanks for the info. Yes I believe you are correct, gold was an option and included gold engine lid script.

am I correct that if it wasn’t gold then on a 911T it should be black?

I would go with Mike. My targa script is silver, but my car came with gold lettering from the factory - the M470 "appearance group" - for the nameplate and model number. I don't think any '71 came with black. I'd love to know if silver came with the M470 package if any experts care to weigh in. My car is very "original" but very tatty original so it wouldn't be a surprise if the targa script was changed 30 years ago.

As far as I know, black Targa script starts in '72 together with the black lettering on the engine lid.

No mention of a silver option in the 70-73 spare parts catalog.

I have only ever seen in black or gold?
