A Pillar ID Tag on Early '69 Coupe

I am curious about A pillar ID tags. Were they present on all '69 coupes and targas? Speaking of the tag next to windshield not the door tag. Were they only on early 69's built prior to 1/69 or were they only on US delivery cars? All comments welcome.
    Thanks again...

Probably just on North American delivered cars from 1969 model year and built during the 1969 calendar year. Note that the paint tag for 1969 MY did not have the VIN as previously.

Yes for NA market, a VIN plate was mounted to the A Pillar from MY69' 911 through the 964 then I think it moved to the dash top with the start of the 993. Fuzzy on when they stopped placing the tag on the A Pillar.

For sure it didn't correlate to the new VIN format adopted in around 79/80. I know I've seen the later 17 digit VIN on an A Pillar before.

Since the A-pillar VIN was prompted by a US DOT regulation, and such regulations typically take effect on Jan. 1, '69 MY cars made in '68 were not required to have this. Porsche may have started adding it a little earlier than Jan. 1, but apparently not much earlier.

My December, 1968, built Karmann Coupe (M/Y 1969), ordered from and delivered to Florida did not have any identification tag attached to the "A" pillar.

    A-pillar VIN Tag

'. . . A move to create a more systematic VIN scheme was made in 1968, with the enactment of Federal motor vehicle safety standard (FMVSS) No. 115, which took effect January 1, 1969. That standard required each passenger car to have a VIN that is permanently “sunk or embossed” on a part of the vehicle visible through the glazing by a person standing at the left windshield pillar . . .'

My car is a early-80s Euro personal import --- had a tag affixed at that time, presumably . . . still there

Good info on this subject. My car is late ‘68 build date so I guess there would not have been
A VIN tag on A pillar .....That explains why there were no holes or tag there when I purchased car. Thank you everyone for responding so quickly on this ...
