    911S Front Oil lines

My 1971 S came with a front oil cooler. Unfortunately it was shot and I was also unable to save the two flexible connecting lines that run from the hard lines to the cooler itself. I have a new Porsche oil cooler and also new Porsche connecting lines. However, as you can see, the lines kink a bit - more on the small inside one. I have tried taking it apart a number of times trying to find the natural fit - and also some gentle persuasion - but still can't seem to avoid the kinks. Thoughts? OK as is?

Definitely not okay...that will hamper oil flow.

I had a similar problem with kinking that I determined was caused by one of the lines being a bit too long, so I took the flexible line to a local hydraulic hose shop. They shortened the hose by about one inch and recrimped the metal ends. That solved my particular problem.

    Good luck!

One other thought:...since you now have unfettered access to the new metal lines perhaps you can loosen the hold-down clamps and push the metal lines away from the cooler (towards the rear of the car) by an inch or so which will reduce the compression forces that are causing the kinking. This might require a little bending of the metal lines.

You might consider support coil, this is from Earls, I think -12. The hose was Argus but the principle is the same. It was a “R” and the hose had to bend that tight. The original hoses were all kinked. G

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly one of the original lines did have a spring in it to keep it from kinking. If you still have the originals maybe it's reusable?

    Cooler hose issue

I'm having a related problem and could use some guidance. Purchased a cooler kit from Elephant racing, hoses came with 30 mm ends. Unfortunately, this car has 26mm fittings on the hard lines and I can't seem to find hoses that will work or fittings that I can bring to my hose fabricator for him to use. (No issue getting 26 mm male fittings for cooler) Any help would be appreciated.
    TIA,
    Mark

Brad Davis also does great work rebuilding original oil lines. He is on the Registry and his website is http://www.911rennen.com/index.php

Thanks. Will give him a call.

I think the kink is partially due to the type of hose used. The original hose has that braided wrap layer. I think Brad could make you hoses from that type material.

    Thanks Guys!

Mark, I will be happy to help. One idea would be to get a M26xm30 adapter that screws into the cooler, which will solve that problem. Elephant sells them, I think.

Looking at the soft lines and where they need to go, I would say there is some adjustment needed. I can send you a selection of fittings and some hose. Let you see what works and mock up everything. Then send back to crimping.

    Best regards,

    Brad
