    Large Durant mirror glass replacement

    Cracked mirror glass needs replacement.

Unbolted unit, removed black retaining seal - interference fit

Clearly mirror has been apart before, as black electrical tape is not OEM

Have seen on other threads that there is a rubber gasket that should be in the assembly.

Can anyone help with measurements, location within assembly pls.

Eg : 1mm thickness 120mm diameter, behind mirror only

Have ordered new 120mm convex glass from eBay, £7

Would I get away with silicone adhesive sheet with a thickness of 1mm on the back of the mirror ? I can see the motorbike gearbox washers have diameter of 120mm but not sure yet about the width..

    Hi Rich,
I recently did the same to my mirror. Replaced the glass with 3mm from a local glazier to match the original. I bought 1.5-2mm thick neoprene sheet from eBay to make the gasket. All went back together without any issues.

I also applied a liberal dollop of grease on the rusted pivot hinge to stop it getting worse.

    Good luck

Great work, Rich. Did you replace the black retaining seal? If so, mind sharing your source? I am getting ready to possible do this too, just wondering on the specifics or "gotchas" with the project. Thank you!

curious about this as well. I've been having some trouble getting the seal out, and it would be great to know how/where to get a replacement in case it gets damaged. thanks!

Also interested in how you got the black seal ring, if you got a new one or reused the old one, etc. Thanks.

The back trim ring is NLA to my knowledge. I bought a cheap repro on eBay to see if the rings were interchangeable but haven't gotten around to it yet. To remove it, you need to work it out with a blade along the edges of the mirror housing and it just pops out. Delicate work and much easier to do with the glass removed.
