    1973.5 WUR is Toast

I was having cold start problems that got pretty bad. Replaced the intake boots that were more crack than rubber, and put in new airbox, which had one too many band-aid patches. Bought a HF fuel pressure tester (yes mistake I know), and after pulling all the Quick Connect internals that didn't work finally got it to work. My system pressure is only 3 bars (3.5 bars with engine running). I put in a new Bosch Fuel Pump so was expecting it to be 5 bars. I replaced almost all of the rubber fuel lines, except a few hard to reach spots where I spliced with brass barb menders - I am wondering if I have impeded the flow and that is why? I will be doing that job correctly in a few months when I pull engine so this was to get me a month of fun before snow. I am guessing that is maybe a good thing at the moment because of problem #2 which is Control Pressure = System Pressure. I think it is the fault of the WUR which of course is the very first unrebuildable WUR 438 140 001. I removed it and zero flow in any direction - totally blocked. Tried soaking insides with carb cleaner - dumped on papertowel not the slightest sign of shellac being dissolved or rust dust. 80 psi into return port. piano wire up the intake tube gets into the unit as if there is no intake screen, does not stick to any muck. Totally blocked? Any ideas to rehab it - really doubting that? And getting to the real question, I have read that I need Bosch 438 140 129, but I don't see that available - anyone know how I can get one or what else would work? thanks

BTW - this car sat for 12 years before I bought it about 1 year ago (and 2,200 miles ago), but I got the tank clean enough to drink beer out of , flushed lines and replaced fuel filter before starting so I hope I got all the shellac sludge out?

Contact Tony Donato, email is atd911@hotmail.com. He is the CIS Guru over at the Pelican Parts Forum. He may have a WUR 129 to replace your non rebuild able 001.
