'. . . 1973 Porsche 911T coupe is one of three examples modified as an RSR art car tribute by Jon Gunderson in Escondido, California. The car is finished in a purple and green livery designed by Freeman Thomas in tribute to the 1970 917 LH “hippie” car. Power is provided by a fuel-injected Rothsport Racing 3.5L flat-six mated to a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Features include sculpted steel bumpers, an aluminum ducktail rear spoiler, a center-fill 100-liter fuel tank with a machined metal fill cap, custom dual exhaust outlets, 15″ Braid wheels, Elephant Racing suspension components, black RS-style bucket seats with purple inserts, and a leather-wrapped roll bar. The current owner began the build in 2017 and has added approximately 3k kilometers (~2k miles) since the build was completed in early 2020. This 911 RSR tribute is now offered on behalf of the builder and current owner in California with a clean Montana title in the name of the owner’s LLC.

During the build process, the body of the donor 911 was stripped prior to metalwork that included hand-crafting steel bumpers as well as adding steel fender flares and a custom all-aluminum decklid and ducktail rear spoiler. The exterior was repainted in a purple and green color scheme modeled after the 1970 Le Mans 917 LH “hippie” car. Styling cues include a custom billet aluminum fuel cap, a matching passenger-side oil fill cap, T-handle hood latches, and RSR script on the rear spoiler. The exterior was reportedly wrapped in paint protection film, which is said to have been polished and ceramic coated. A walk-around video detailing the exterior and interior of the car is shown here.

Braid 15″ wheels measure 9″ in width up front and 11″ out back and wear Michelin TB5 tires. The chassis is fitted with Elephant Racing suspension components including Polybronze bushings, sway bars, shock mounts, and a matched set of torsion bars and Von Shocks. Porsche 930 trailing arms have also been added, along with Porshe 930 finned brake calipers and cross-drilled rotors at all four corners. The car is said to have been corner-balanced by Rothsport Racing after the engine was installed.

The cabin features upholstery work reportedly performed by Autos International as well as black RS-style front seats said to be sourced from GTS Classic. They feature purple inserts and are joined by a purple dashboard with suede padding. Additional equipment includes charcoal square-weave carpets, Rennline floorboards, a wooden 917-style shift knob, a Wevo shifter, and a leather-wrapped roll bar with green stitching.

The RSR-style steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation including a white 10k-rpm tachometer and a 300-km/h speedometer, along with auxiliary gauges and a Heuer chronograph clock. The six-digit odometer shows 3k kilometers (~2k miles).

The Rothsport Racing 3.5L flat-six engine features electronic fuel injection, modified high butterfly throttle bodies, and a Motec engine management system hidden within the case of a Bosch MFI pump and twin CDI unit housings. The engine was reportedly tuned by Sakata Motorsports. Oil coolers are mounted up front and on the passenger side. An engine start video is provided here

Power is routed to the rear wheels via a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle and an OS Giken limited-slip differential. A transaxle cooler is fitted
