    Foil Technical Decals (engine bay)

Does anyone have any original technical decals that they could use to measure the gauge of the metal?

Nobody makes these decals with this in mind. Most are printed on what would appear to be acetate film.
I received a reply from CarBone this morning with respect to this issue and I understand their point of view from an economic standpoint but
the original ones WERE so much more hardy. You can discern an original from a reproduction in the blink of an eye.

I am toying with a solution.

    Thanks!

hmm , a few porsche parts dealers in germany are doing it right , i have not study it in 100% details regarding scripts , but on correct brushed material ( I know what you mean )

but here is everybody´s problem , NON want to advertize these in public , due to Porsche lawyers , AND I share my personal experience regarding the bosch lenses.

AND I have allways been surprised how Car bone can sell it ! and are not affraid of doing marketing that big in public , or is it just a matter of time before they get a letter !

    Regards

They have been aggressive and persistent for decades. I will always remember when used parts dealer Porscheaven in the SF Bay Area had to convert its name to Partsheaven...

Tom, I'm interested in seeing what you can come up with. I replaced all 5 tech plates on my 72T after paint, 4 from Porsche and 1 from Canfield in the UK. All 5 are aluminum plates, not the more common acetate film. But all 5 are also much thicker than the remains of the couple of originals I had. (All 5 also have a slightly wrong font, even the ones from Porsche. But that's a separate issue.) FWIW, I prefer these too-thick plates to the film decals, although proper thickness would be even better. The film decals show any flaws in the paint or metal underneath, the thicker ones don't.

The one I kept for reference measures 0.0085" or 0.2mm on my digital caliper without adhesive. So probably anywhere between 0.008" and 0.010" (0.2-0.25mm) would be close enough.

Build date on my car was 8/71, in case it matters.

Pictures from my thread about this capacity plate. - Odd tire/capacity sticker for early '72 T

That's about 0.012", so just a touch thicker than my capacity sticker. So 0.010" (0.25mm) seems like a decent middle ground for both.
