dead pedal information for 1971 coupe

    Hello Groupe.
I wanted to see if someone has experience with a dead pedal in their car?

I have a 71 coupe with biege carpet...and i dont desire to wear or discolor the carpet next to the clutch. (as well, a place for my foot would be nice).
(my audi TT has a built in dead pedal, which i used to whole time. but it is a paddle shifter car)

how are the dead pedals? do they interfere in a tight area? or are they wonderful?
i think i understand that they bolt thru the carpet and thru the metal.
also, i am tall and need room to get in and out of the car. i have to push in the clutch to get out. and the dead pedal might just be in the wrong place.

if i buy one, it doesn't need to be NOS, or even factory...a copy would do. It is not a concours car, I am fine with making a modification.

    any help?

I have had several long hoods and the first thing I do is install the dead pedal. I am 6'1". The one by M. Campuzano is relatively easy to install on your own. I found that, without it, there is a bit of a curvature in that part of the floor where my foot will slide around and it gets very uncomfortable in any rally situation, so it is something I take care of right away. The only other comment is that you have to make holes in the floor pan to install it -- on a concours car, this may not be in your best interest.

    Good luck!
    Jim

I have a NOS one, and there are no holes for mounting. I assume it was to be welded in place. I also assume that since it was for race cars, there would be no carpet to interfere. Further, I would think that it would be a better brace than the clutch pedal. I do like it in my modern, non Porsche, cars as a brace for my foot.
