Thread: Are there any better seats than these?

  1. #21
as a kind of "start-up capital", the porschewerk signed a contract with reutter body shop in 1963. in this it was agreed that for the next ten years the porsche company would have to buy ALL seats and hinges for all porsche from recaro. the contract began on first december 1963.

    regards

my favourites to sit in are definetely the Rallye Bitter - best seat ever for my back.
I even fabricated a shifter so I could fit them to my car and still have first gear

There are various historical pictures of factory race cars with scheel seats present. I doubt that agreement was adhered to for the race cars.
    Here's the werks ST.

yes, that is well known ... we also write here in this thread. i think it wasn't as important to porsche / recaro as the few racing cars and rally cars were fitted out and mr. scheel tried very hard. i mentioned the agreement to make it clear why only recaros were built into most of the (series) porsche of this time. never say never ;-) regards

The Gaban 2.3 ST ran with the Recaro. My replica of his car has Scheel 300's as i'm a big guy.

    SUPER cool pic, and post.

I would also be interested to hear your feedback on both comfort and support between these two seats and period Scheels. None of the "repro" vintage seats I have tried are all that comfortable, and I keep finding that period Scheels have effectively made my old Porsche fun to be in again (thanks Russ!). It's hard to overstate the value of good seating, and my experience was that even non-supportive factory seats > uncomfortable seats with a lot of bolster. Even on the curviest of CA roads, you're using those big bolsters in a smaller proportion. The best option, then, is a supportive seat that's at least as comfortable as the stockers—a rare combo.
