Thread: CV joint grease question

    CV joint grease question

Rebuilt my axles. After cleaning the cv joints I put a light coat of synthetic oil on them to prevent surface rust while waiting for grease to arrive. When I got the grease I just applied it to the CV joint. But I didn’t think to clean the oil off first. Hoping the oil doesn’t thin the grease out? Am I over thinking this?

I’m not an expert by any means, but from my experience dealing with heavy machinery and shipboard equipment I wouldn’t worry about it. An insignificant amount of oil mixed in with grease won’t do any harm.
