    Mallory Super CD

I found this Mallory Super CD unit in a box of parts today. Was this any good in it's day? Did it improve the performance by a great margin or? Anyone still using these? Just curious as I have a 68 911 and I am not running any CDI unit at all...

Thanks in advance for any info!

Well, kind of surprised no one on this site has any experience with a Mallory Super CD. I did a little more research on this and found it is nothing more than a distributor signal amplifier. Also, it is epoxied together and therefore makes it just about unserviceable if it fails. Not sure how to test this one on the bench or if it's even worth the effort.

A simple test usually involves supplying power and ground to the unit and listening for a high pitched sound emitted, sometimes young ears are needed to hear it, generally CD units are not potted and components can be replaced as in Mark 10 units that factory dealers fitted in early cars, they can be run tested on any piece of equipment that uses points and standard coils. Will reduce point wear and provide maximum spark and less plug fouling.

    AKAMick,

Thank you for the feedback, very helpful.

I applied power to the unit today and it did have a noticeable high pitch squeal.

Anyone know where this typically would have been mounted in an SWB? There isn't any space available on the electrical panel in the left rear quarter panel.
