Hi Dporsche!
I read all your threads when I acquired the car and saw what research you had managed. Very interesting and led me down some helpful avenues. Some incredible folks have been involved with this car, not least Bill Warner who wrote the article!
I’m continuing my research and currently trying to establish which dealership or region the car was originally delivered to, in order to further establish Steve’s ownership.
Will post all the progress here and thanks to everyone for filling in the gaps and confirming the car’s history from Steve to the article and onwards.
No news back yet on tracking the dealership or region the car was originally delivered to. But I did manage to contact Bill Warner (founder of Amelia Island Concours), who wrote the original article on the car in 1972. He remembered the car and the article, but sorry to say that he did not take any notes of engine or VIN number of the car
Will follow up if and when I get any information with regards to where the car was originally shipped, but for now I'm one tiny step away from tying all of this together. It's frustrating and there is obviously so much information to demonstrate that's its unbelievably likely to be Steve's car. Would just like some documentation from Porsche on possibly which dealership ordered the car or a VIN or engine number, as the final piece of the puzzle....
I have received some amazing information from an EarlyS member, who was able to get some information that I don’t have access to. He was somehow able to trace the vehicle from production until it was delivered to the regional distributor in the US. It shows that the car was shipped to Porsche Car Southeast, Inc. It also shows that this distributor is responsible for distributing inbound cars to only 3 states (GA , FL & SC). Steve’s dealership was in GA. This member believes that this dramatically reducing the possibilities of this being anything other than the 72 Road & Track “Ultimate 911” car. I am so thankful for the help and glad to finally have this piece of information.
Well how cool is THAT !!!!
GREAT assist... Congrats !!!

You’re right Billh, the CoA for my car and the car in the article have no power windows. But this distributor data matches to the car’s VIN, so either the COA and article are wrong or this distributor data has an error with an option code....
Will email the person who acquired this data and see if they have any ideas.
Ok, received message back from the person who located the distributor information and he informed me that it was an error on their side, as the information on the car records stated that it had the M470 option and he then tries to extrapolate what that included in a specific year. He says that this information is poorly documented and varies by year etc. and it is an error and that nothing they have specifically says the vehicle ever had electric windows. They have just sent me an updated report to make this correction.
This certainly had my head spinning for a while, so I am thankful they were able to clarify and correct the report.
Nice detective work !
Really hope your car is the R&T car.....I remember that article as a kid, and still have the magazine !
