    Question on early engine cover

    Hi
On the original engine cover from my 1966 coupe, there is a section riveted onto the part which abuts the fan. Can anyone tell me exactly what this does and if it is important? I’m guessing it aids correct airflow, but wanted to check with the collective wisdom here.
    Thanks.

Sure,,,that helps direct the air to # 1 cylinder, since it is mostly out of the airstream. Later housings don't have that since the redirection was handled by the cone behind the alternator.
