Hugh, please, if you have the time, could you please confirm which vertical font 'bits' are 15mm. Thanks a lot!

Michael, do I assume all the fonts are 10mm both horizontal and vertical on your version? Thanks a lot!

    Hugh/Al

No, the vertical and horizontal components are different on mine, more like Hughs. Most of the horizontal components on my trace come in right at 11mm. Having said that, the 'S' and 'E' on my tracing is just under 11mm and I believe I know why. They cannot follow that convention because of the negative space between the horizontal components. That small negative space is 4mm on the 'P', 'R', 'S', and 'E'. All of my measurements on that 4mm spacing are consistent. On the 'S' and 'E' if I deduct the 4mm spacing from the total height and then divide by the 3 horizontal components there is a fractional difference, not whole mm.

If I were the guy sitting at a drawing board in the 60s, and laying it out, that's how I would have designed it..

For some reason on my trace, the vertical components of all the letters have a greater degree of variation in measurements but, again we are talking about a material that would have been prone to stretching at the time of installation and shrinking due to age. If I were to try and guess a dimension and assume shrinkage over time, I'd probably be stating 16mm for the vertical components even though I can't reason going up to 12mm for the horizontal.

Just looking at all of my measurements and coming up with a meaningful average, I'd say 15mm for the vertical.

If the overall widths of the letters remain constant and the vertical components remain constant then there would be a continuity in the design of the overall 'PORSCHE'. Again, I am thinking from a font perspective and not this stripe as a standalone design activity.

Interesting that the database access posted by John Gausden today includes side script PDF’s
It’s clear that the horizontal space between the letters and Lines is smaller at top than below.
    Check it out.

Agree the spacing looks like Bob's asymmetrical version. I wonder the source of the file?

Put some on an Outlaw, 3rd party supplier, difficult to put on the big fenders. May not be installed correctly, don’t care, the facing and backing buckled and left wrinkles. Hard to see defects and no one has said anything. They broke up the big bright sides nicely.

Hey Mike, Just checking in on this older thread if you were ever able to nail the script, and a way for me to utilize on my build. Glad to feed the giant and contribute if requested, just want it correct. Thanks a ton!

No,,, Al and I traded emails for awhile and I started drawing my version up in CAD but, didn't finish,,, There's actually a couple of pairs for sale on EBay right now that are supposed to be W. German sourced from the early '90s and they look like they have the offset too. I was thinking of buying one of the sets to measure separately. Would be a good comparison to the tracing off the doors I had.

20 years later, I don't think I'd trust the they could actually be used. They are 3M judging from the pictures. I have no idea of the originals manufacturer.

Dang... can't find it on the bay. Do you think it's the correct spacing or not the same as early 70's?
