    While I assume it's understood it hasn't been explicitly mentioned that early cars (~MY 1965) with locking steering columns had a small brass (or could it be bronze?) bezel. Here's 301382 (delivered in Wiesbaden June 1965 with Imperial gauge markings) with a locking steering column:

    Also, many cars coming to the USA did get locking steering columns. Locking steering columns seem to have been more likely on cars delivered in Europe but intended for the USA (like 301382) but I've never figured out what--if anything--controlled the locking/non-locking choice.

    Being a data junkie, I download Kardexes if they pop up on the internet. I found these on my hard drive:

    That's two consecutive chassis numbers (they did leave the factory 3 weeks apart), both dolphin grey, both headed to P. C. Pacific in Burlingame but 301349 has an "FL" key code for a locking steering column while 301350 has a "K" code for a non-locking steering column.
