    Fuel filler well -- Karmann

I have found pieces of threads about the Karmann bodied 911s with this area around the fuel filler that was hand painted black. If this is somewhere else, please direct me. I want to know when they started and stopped doing it. I know it wasn't from the beginning, since I have photos of an April 1965 car with original paint (attached). I think I saw mention of it being still done in 1970. Is that right?

I have seen one picture of a green 911 that was claimed to have original factory black paint in the well,,,but I gave it little credence when I noticed that it was a later fender that had been installed,,,give away was a hole for the vent tube that didn't exist on the 66 car the picture was of!

My Oct ‘65 912 and March ‘66 911 both have black paint. Both have original stamped matching numbered light buckets. My 912 had some door damage and there is some overspray on the black.

1966 912. My first car. Bought it Nov. 25, 1988. Still have it.
