    special colors - vw repair guide - type 2 -1959 - chapter A

    Dear all,

as we had the thread with the VW special color LKM 12
    https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...del-yr!/page52
    #512

I had in my archive this very nice Volkwagen repair guide, 532.522, 2/62, which listed some of the colors, and also the LKM 12,

I have the intro translated and the manual as an attachment pdf.file....

    Introduction

    As repair paints are

    a. air-drying synthetic resin paints from the LKL group (hereinafter referred to as LKL paints for short)
    b. Oven-drying synthetic resin paints of the LK group (hereinafter referred to as LK paints for short)
    c. Group L nitro combination paints (hereinafter referred to as L paints for short)
    to use.

1 . The LKL and LK lacquers produce the same lacquer effect and the same quality as the oven-drying synthetic resin lacquers used in the factory.

The difference is that the LKL lacquers in the air are dust-dry within 3 to 4 hours - depending on the air temperature - and dry to the touch after about 12 hours. When applying a heat source, whose temperature should not exceed 70-75 ° C, the same grip is already achieved after 30-45 minutes.

The LK lacquers (also known as "80 ° lacquers") have the advantage that after the oven drying (80-90 ° C in 50-60 minutes) and the object has cooled down, repolishing takes place immediately to remove any dirt inclusions that may have arisen, or immediate repainting (in the case of incorrect paintwork) can be carried out.

    2. A visually flawless repair paintwork can only be achieved, if the color of the touch-up paint used corresponds exactly to the color of the existing body paint.

Annotation: It is hardly possible to achieve an absolute match of the color tones of the individual deliveries as well as between the individual color qualities (oven-drying to air-drying). It is therefore not always possible to avoid tinting the touch-up paints. The explanation of this circumstance, such as the dependency on the spraying technique, natural aging of the original paintwork, the impossibility of creating color tone measurements, etc. would lead too far in this context.
To match the color, "original VW mixed enamel paints" for the groups LKL, LK and L are kept in pure mixed tones, which allow the original VW paints to be tinted easily and safely if necessary.

For the quality groups LKL , LK and L are the respective mixed colors, for LKL and LK the mixed colors LKM and for L the mixed colors LM, to be used.

    3. In order to ensure absolute security of the quality of the repair paint, even when it is carried out under the most unfavorable conditions (high humidity in the work rooms, low capacity of the systems, etc.). there was a change in quality and an expansion of the selection of basic materials

Very useful, thanks. Do you have any later color tables? I see that in this table schwarz is L40, while on the 914's it is L041; probably a leading 0 to accommodate 3 digit codes, and an advance from 40 to 41. Some guys want to insist it is 04I because every other code ends in a letter, but I have always said it was an old code without letters.

Thank you, guys. There was a 356 SC for sale a while ago in the same colour...I wonder if the owners were one and the same?
