    Excellence of Small Things: Gaskets

I'm currently restoring three sets of LWB turn signals and taillights and this is the first time I have used the gaskets provided to me by my lens manufacturer in Italy. They are extraordinary, the best by far that I have ever used. With these gaskets and the perfectly fitting AC lenses, your turn signals and taillights Will Not Ever Leak.

    LWB Gasket Sets
    Turn Signal Pair: $33.00
    Taillight Pair: $33.00
    4-Corners: $59.00

    SWB Gasket Sets:
    Turn Signal Pair: $33.00
    Taillight Pair: $33.00

These folks are raising a lot of bars.

    Pictures coming...

    Thanks,
    John

I found out something interesting - and important - about these gaskets.

In the past I have usually used Permatex Clear RTV Silicone to attach the gaskets. No love with these gaskets. As it turns out one of the things that makes these gaskets so nice (and so soft) is that (unlike most other gaskets evidently) they are made of TPE elastomer thermoplastic (sometimes called thermoplastic rubber). This material stretches and returns to its original shape well and you can actually install these gaskets on LWB cars with no adhesive if the lens is seated properly.

But, if you use adhesive, a cyanacrylate adhesive is required. We recommend Locktite 401 (which we supply in our Turn Signal/Taillight Renovation Kits). Use some care because it dries quickly! If you have purchased gaskets from recently and need an adhesive please PM me and I'll send you some Locktite 401.

    Cheers,
    John

P.S. It always amazes me how much complexity when you're striving to make decisions of products offerings based on quality based on science. Everyday life is sometimes like swimming in the top 5' of a 5,000' lake.

I understated how good these gaskets are. They are so superior to ordinary gaskets that I removed the gaskets from two sets of LWB signal lights that I recently completed restoring and replaced them with these. It's a drastic improvement. The TPE rubber is soft and rich and doesn't have the dried out appearance that other gaskets sometimes have. And using Locktite 401 makes it the easiest installation of gaskets ever. Just a drop on the four corners, install the gasket, wait about 20 seconds for it to set, and then a few drops across the bottom and top. And they should do a great job sealing given their softness and fullness.

It's great if you buy these from me but that's not the intent of this post. I'm recommending these to you as a fellow enthusiast. Other gaskets are simply obsolete.

I'll try to post a couple of close-ups.

    Cheers,
    John

The best gaskets ever. A perfect example of the kind of parts I'm always looking for that qualify for Best in Class ®.

    Cheers,
