Odd License plate light replacments- anyone seen this?

Replacing the license plate lights with new ones from Porsche (90163160101) and discovered a small "feature" to the clear lens.

I can grind down the nub but never seen this before.

Has anyone seen this before. Is this lens used for more than one application?

Natural color LEDs work well. Excellent light intensity and dispersion. Looks stock.
