71T Turn Signal doesn't self cancel

Morning sports fans, my turn signal doesn't self cancel, I have to manually move it back to neutral position, not the end of the world but I wish it worked. I have priced new switch assemblies and it looks like they run about 500. Has anyone repaired this issue or has anyone found a less expensive after market switch? thanks, robb gwaltney

If your canceling ring is attached to the back of the steering wheel, then one or both of the tabs are broken off the switch. One is broken on one of my cars, and only cancels in one direction. Didn’t look like anything I could fix. Very small tab.

Not having the cancel ring was my problem. Looks like this:

It is possible that the cancel ring is not oriented properly on the steering wheel. Mine would cancel in one direction only. I had to rotate it so the tab was aligned with the T/S switch.

Had this happen to the early car. Wasn't quite sure what was wrong. I found that the small little springs in the assembly dirty were a bit dry after removing the protective cover. I carefully wrapped the switch section in cloth and cleaned/lubricated the area. Started working well. Oh and yes the canceling ring was in the correct position.

This is a very common problem with an electromechanical design that was antiquated even by the standards of the time. On my '69 the fingers are intact, the springs are well-lubricated, the cancel ring is fully intact and in the correct orientation, and all the rest. The turn signal cancels maybe 20% of the time, if even that. There are bigger things in life to worry about. Like the stupid position of the single side-view mirror.
