Mahle biral cylinders with JE pistons ok?

    Hi,

I have two sets of Mahle 2.4 biral cylinders that are worn out of spec. They can be machined to the smallest oversize (0.25 mm), but is it possible/recommended to use JE pistons?
As I understand, JE are primarily designed for use with alu/nicasil cylinders. The only information LN Engineering provide regarding the topic is this:

    - Piston clearances designed for aluminum cylinders, steel/iron cylinders may require additional clearance.

For some reason Mahle seem to only provide sets with both cylinders and pistons. Strange.

For street use a 4032 alloy piston is better for biral cyls.. Mahle motorsport lists a 4032 piston set for 2.4, part nr. pp84-001. Wossner also sells 4032 pistons. JE are 2618 alloy which expands more than 4032

Thanks. I have sent a request to my local OPC. Perhaps they can provide Mahle pistons. Would be strange if no oversize pistons are available, considering that there are several classes of standard and oversize pistons for these engines.

I have a set of new Mahle 2.4S pistons and nicasil cylinders for $2500 if you are interested.

I have 2.7 l nickies with JE pistons ready to install, and two sets Mahle 2.4 biral cylinders with 2.2S pistons, alas worn too much to reuse. If the cylinder wall is worn more than 1/100 mm at any point, the bore will have to be machined and new pistons installed. This according to Wayne Dempsey's book. I'm just trying to find out if new pistons are obtainable, as it might help the sale.
