    M566 fog light option on 1973 911S

Hi all, I just got the build sheet (from a friendly forum member) for my 1973 911S, build date 11/1972. It has M566 "white fog lights over bumper" option. This does not seem to be the through-the-grille fog lights (option M432) which are over the the bumper, and certainly I assume this option was not for the under the bumper fog lights.

So does anyone know what this option M566 really was? Thanks in advance.

My guess would be attached to the fender, however not sure they would be fog lights vs a driving light. I’m sure someone here has a definitive answer.

In the meantime, check out this post and subsequent links.

The "normal" option codes for TTG fog lights are M433 white, above bumper, and M434 yellow, above bumper, and M431 and M432 are for the equivalent driving lights.

HOWEVER these are for Halogen lights and I am not sure that they were legal in the USA at that time.

In a USA printed option list that has been posted on this board a number of times there is no reference to the above options. BUT there is reference to option 556 (for all cars at a cost of $48.50) that simply says "fog lights"

I would guess that this is for USA DOT compliant TTG fog lights and was a special USA only option and that ROW fog lights were probably not able to be ordered for a USA compliant car

That is interesting. What option number was against it?
Could things gave changed by 1972?

    Kardex & COA

    I don’t think 68 had a option # assigned to it in the Kardex.Name: 0F821852-033B-4F0F-BBED-10D025790BDE.jpg

Thanks You are correct about no option number - also it would have been the old pre-1970 four digit number anyway. It is a bit of a mystery to me

here is that 1972 option list that has been posted here before

My car was indeed US spec, so this could explain it. Thank you all for your help!

Hugh, I think this is actually a '73 option list, not '72. Several clues to that:

    • The 914 with 2.0L 4-cylinder was not available in '72, but was first offered in '73.
    • Appearance group for 911T lists leatherette (vinyl) steering wheel. In '72 that package included real leather.
    • Note that the front spoiler is shown for 911T only. In '72 it was an option for both T & E, but was standard on E in '73.
    • Option 477 was 6x15 cast wheels for 911T only. Those had to be cookie cutters, which were new for '73 and standard on 911E.
