    Shift Coupler Tunnel Cover Question

I am about to install the grilled shift coupler tunnel cover on my '70 project. Is there anything that goes between the cover and the top of the tunnel or are the grills open to the inside of the tunnel and the coupler?

The PET shows nothing but I have seen some covers with some insulating material inside of the cover.

FWIW my 69 had what looked to be original stiff tar-like insulation under the vented cover. Some pictures:

Depends on whether or not your car had the auxiliary heater. With a heater the grille was open for air movement, without a heater the tarred cardboard would be used.

Trying to get close to original look. NAPA sound deadening panel cut to size.

Very thick roofing tar paper is nearly a dead match for the original stuff as well. It’s probably what they used. That’s what I cut mine out of..fyi Steve
