    ‘72 Targa glass trim removal

    Hello Friends,

I’m wondering if it’s possible to remove the side chrome trim from Greenie without removing the targa glass. I’m referring to the shorter trim which is on either side and not continuous around the glass. It sits directly above the quarter panels and is not the continuous trim which is in the rubber molding. The wheel wells are currently empty so I have full access to the area. The trim is attached by screws through the metal from the top side and cannot be tapped out from the underside. Please refer to the pics.

    Thanks,

    Ravi

If your life depended on it ..... yea. you would have to grind all screws from the under side flush+ and then there are two locating pins (one you see in your picture.) They are about 20 mm, and 190mm from the pillar They would have to be ground down flush+. Then to get the last screw out at the back of the trim piece you would have to remove the upholstery in the back window area and you will find access to the last screw... With a boning tool you would go under the trim, raising it enough to clear the remaining screw stubs and slide out.
You might encounter a butyl strip under the chrome strip and that would make it a lot harder to. (you had me at smart ass)

Have a small-ish rust area on the driver’s side but no corresponding rust on the underside in the wheel well. Bits of the undercoating easily peeled off and I can examine enough of the metal. Not so for the seat bottoms....speaking of ass!!!!

    Thank you Mr. Bob!!!!
