'. . . This Porsche 911S is one of 483 Soft Window Targa cars said to have been built for the 1967 model the year. The car was purchased by the selling dealer in 2015 and a subsequent five year full restoration included a repaint in the original color of Irish Green, installation of a new black leatherette interior, and rebuilds of its numbers matching 2.0 liter Type 901/02 flat six and dogleg five-speed manual transaxle, along with other work. The car has been driven under 250 miles since the refurbishment was completed, and tuning and adjustments were performed in preparation for the sale. This 911S is offered in Arizona with period manufacturer’s and sales literature, tool and travel kits, restoration photos and records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a clean Oregon title.

The car was competed on July 10, 1967 and was finished in Irish Green (6606) from the factory. The restoration included disassembly and a repaint with Glasurit material by Altissimo Custom Paint. Exterior details include 911S bumper trims, dual snail horns, yellow Hella driving lights, and a polished square lip exhaust tip.

The Targa roof panel and folding rear window assembly were also refurbished. Restored 15” X 4.5” Fuchs wheels with black accents feature heart shaped cutouts nearest their valve stems and wear Pirelli Cinturato tires. The braking system, suspension and steering rack were overhauled by Porsche of Bend Oregon.

The black leatherette interior was retrimmed by Autos International of Escondido, California, and wears vinyl upholstery with textured inserts, charcoal carpeting, and replacement door cards as well as new hardware and knobs. A dash-mounted loudspeaker, antenna, and radio frequency suppression material were optioned when new, though the car is not currently equipped with a radio.

A four-spoke steering wheel with horn paddles frames a quintet of green-letter VDO gauges including a clock, a center tachometer with a 7,200-rpm redline, and a 150-mph speedometer containing a five-digit odometer that shows 55k miles.

The front trunk is protected with carpet liners and houses a refurbished fuel tank, a spare Fuchs wheel, and a rebuilt Webasto gasoline-fueled heater located in the smuggler’s box. The trunk floor sheet metal is finished in a black textured coating also found on the underside of the vehicle.

The numbers matching Type 901/02 flat six was rebuilt by Rothsport , Inc. of Sherwood Oregon, with a displacement increase to 2.2 liters. Additional details include overhauled triple-choke Weber 40 IDF carburetors as well as a fiberglass fan shroud. A 2018 dyno test indicated peak output of 184 horsepower and 158 lb-ft of torque measured at the crank. Tuning and adjustments following initial driving were performed by Patrick Motorsports as detailed in the November 2020 invoice.

A rebuilt numbers-matching Type 901/02 five-speed manual transaxle transmits power to the rear wheels. Additional photos of the coated stainless steel exhaust components and other underbody details can be viewed in the gallery below.

A breakdown of refurbishment costs is pictured above, and 70 pages of records detailing the work are shown in the gallery along with photographs showing the work in various stages.

Included in the sale are a period tool kit and jack, a Porsche travel kit with service items, spare parts, owner’s manuals, and a Targa sales brochure

Oh my! Top level 67S here.

Minor details but really a hot rod with enlarged engine capacity. Also interesting to note no rear seat surrounds. S models still had them up until at least June 6, 1967. Also note talk about Koni Decal but bill for Sachs Boge insert. To be correct if BOGE (original equip) struts and shocks should be blue/gray in color. Easily fixed if so inclined. Otherwise beautiful and desirable car. Will probably exceed $250,000.00. Already added to my list.

I know this car & seller well and worked with him over the last few years and provided quite a few critical 67S parts to take the SWT to "Top Level" as Bill states.

What was it like pre restoration? Photos?

    What’s not original? Dash?

Eric Not meaning to be churlish, but just bought this from Franz. Franz says Jim B. verified the color to be the blue gray on the '67 Boge's. That's what I am going for on my interminable '67 SWT resto. Your thoughts. I have seen a lot of Boge stuff in black.

Used to represent Steve Heffner of Heffner and Pollack. Accountant to many "garmentos". That's probably where I picked up the word while visiting in 1410. I thought the word was invented there. LOL

In an effort to flog this dead horse until it stands, I pulled my copy of the PET. Seems to me to indicate that a '67 Targa used the "912" Boge strut. I think this is further born out by the fact that when I sent my factory original front calipers to PMB I was told that they were slightly different than the then standard S calipers because of the mounting to the struts. I therefore think that the '67 targa in fact used the 912 Boge strut. Major problem here is that the PET always confuses me (a lot of things do). So I am guessing "912/targa" means 912's and all targas. All that being said the factory could have ordered the Boge's in black.
