    Hi Richard,

You can see the "+" clearly on mine. On 72s this spade connects to a blue/yellow wire. The negative connects to 2 brown/white wires.

Do you still have the black diode connected between the spades? This diode stops the shifter contacts from burning out.

    Hi all,
Thanks for all your help to date.

I've finally tracked down the problem. Both of the non-return valves in the inlet manifold are leaking and faulty. When I rebuilt the carbs the vacuum each inlet was making reduced vacuum and so this problem came to life.

Next issue is finding replacements for the brass valves part # 905 116 725 00 as they are NLA.

    Thanks, Richard

Sorry that's the issue after all, Richard... from everything you described those valves seemed the likely culprit. Still available but now about $200 bucks each. Ouch.

Sorry that I didn't look this up earlier. I used an ebay aircon recharge gauge. (I was running my spare 2.7 in the car at the time.)

It’s available here as well. http://www.einmaligparts.com/Check-Valve1_p_84042.html

Are these not repairable, is the valve just sticky? Maybe some releasing fluid will free it.
