    Window felt removal

I am starting on my window frames. (they are removed from the doors and the vent window is out) My window felt is glued in and my vent window seal is so brittle it almost needs to be chipped out.

What is the trick to remove the window felt. Heat? It did not wan to pry out.

I do not want to mess up my frames as they are in good condition. I will sand and polish once stripped.

Thought I'd throw it to the experts first.

    Thank You.

I use a small bent pry tool to slowly chip out the felt. Just a slow process.

That does not sound like that much fun. Is there a special adhesive I should use to put the new one back in with? Weather stripping adhesive?

What are you going to "sand and polish?"

I removed the aluminum window frames from the doors. I wanted to clean them up, replace the seals and make presentable again.

Those frames are bright dip anodize, if you sand you will remove the the anodize. I usually don't use any glue to reinstall.

Thanks, Then I will not be doing the sanding. Looks like Mothers Mag wheel polish then.

The felt is able to pried out and replaced dry. Thanks Again.

Easy on the Mother's Mag wheel polish too. The black stuff you see on the cloth is anodize being removed. Try cleaning then some Gibbs oil. The Gibbs will give better (more lasting) protection than wax. Apply, wait a bit, then buff it off with a microfiber towel.

Dang, OK, I will have to look up Gibbs oil.

Interesting enough = I am trying to dissolve some undercoating that is on a bottom edge by the vent window. Nothing I have works.

What will dissolve the factory schutz undercoating???
