I am trying to understand my paint code tag, which looks like 099-Y-00. Does this make any sense?
The COA notes that it was originally exterior color 324 (84) Metallic Blue and interior color 11 black.

I very highly doubt that is the original paint tag; for one thing, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Researching Paint codes and Engine Build numbers
i think i could agree with davep. i haven't seen a tag that looks so crooked...or where the numbers are going so many directions. and so poorly spaced.

Thank you both. So what would be the correct stamp for my car given the color code?
What year is your car.? Those rivets sure look correct and the plate was sure buried under a bunch of paint. Hmmmm...
PS - We all know how inaccurate CoAs can be. If your car is early enough, would be great to see what is on the Kardex and davep is a resource for that.

The car is a 1973 911S.
I have the Kardex from davep and it says exterior color 324 (84) Metallic Blue.
kiato,
As far as I know 324 was Blue Metallic from '70 to '72... 334 was Blue Metallic for '73...
- This from my '73 Samples Book...
- This is what my '73S paint tag looks like...
Hope this helps,
Chuck

as i look more at this...
i think the crooked paint lines are from someone taping off the tag...it looks like someone painted the car silver.
next.
the rivets look really good and proper.
next
when a custom color was specified...they often used the number L999, but i think there were others. your 99 reminds me of that.
also, when they didnt have a name for a custom color...they would often name it from a color that was close...(so even tho your cardex has metallic blue, it may have just been a color close to that)
next
some of the special custom colors had their numbers hand stamped...and would be crooked and poor spacing. i have seen machines that do the straight and perfect numbers.
in the end, often the best thing to do...is find the paint, the blue paint....like under the dash...even rub off the black paint under the dash...and find the first paint, AND match it.

Great info! Unfortunately the car was a complete mess when I got it, multiple layers of paint in different places, 964 widebody conversion, accident repair, etc. so it is not clear what is the original color. I'll stick to metallic blue as it looks closest to some shades of blue I found on the car.
