Sportomatic servo adjustment - engine fully or partially out?

    All,
Thanks to all those who have helped with the Sporto checks/adjustments so far.

I have checked the hoses, control valve operation, microswitch operation and that the servo maintains vacuum / operates via the control valve.

However, the gears still want to grind in 'L' and 'D' (but not 'D3' and 'D4') so i think the only adjustment or check left is to adjust the servo pushrod.

Adjusting the servo push rod requires the engine to be lowered. Can anyone give me tips on how best to do this?

    Thanks, Richard

I'm able to jack up the rear of my car and pivot down the engine enough- without undoing any oil/fuel lines- to provide just enough room to make this adjustment. I loosen the front two engine mount (gearbox) bolts a few turns but leave them still connected.

The question I would have is "why did it change by itself?" Are you sure your shift coupler isn't loose or the bushes perished? How about the gearshift bushes?
