I was going back and forth on keeping the carpet kit but thought it was a bit too tattered. So out it came. It was a RS style kit so weight was realitivly low. While I was in there I took the passenger foot plate out. It was only there to hold the fire extinguisher system. I'll mount that directly to the floor.

Only negative is I've got to bring out the wire wheel again to remove the glue and prep for paint..arghh

As I cleared the old glue etc from the back half of the interior (brutally dirty job) i got to the front section and realized the front firewall/foot well still had the sound deadning tar!! Cue the heat gun and chisel. 1 hour cleared the passenger side. Now I can wire wheel the residue. Much more involved job than I originally planned.

Bonus weight savings. picture below is only the passenger side. The driver side added just over a lbs

Been very tedious the last week or so. I should have fiberglass parts next week and suspension will go back in soon.

Well, you are down 100 lbs+ and just another 75 to go to meet your target. You are doing very good.

    John,

Looking good, you should met that goal no problem. Will you be using Plexiglass rear vent and back windows and plastic door handles? Would this have been available back in the day? Did they do this on the 911R?

Did the 67"s have the two 50lbs cast weights in the front bumper? My 66 did, got to love German engineering.

    Great thread..thanks.

    Thanks Joe,
I've got the door handles but have yet to weigh them.
I also have the lexan quarter windows but in original frames.

I was looking over the parts and realized the fuel cell had a fiberglass undertray. It really serves no purpose other than cosmetic. Out it comes!

Going to change driver seats. The car used to a have a momo from the late 90's and will be getting a Recaro PP
Due to the age of the drivers seat it needed a seat brace which was an additional 2lbs. Seats that are within the 5 yr
manufacturing date are exempt from braces which inturn saves a couple more pounds.

Seat savings was 10lbs and the brace 2lbs

I had Al Kosmal (member here) make me a R style Deck grille. Saved just over 1.5 lbs off the rear of the car which is an added bonus.

Original was almost 3lbs and the new one is 1.2.

1.5lbs saved 1907 lbs total weight.

Thanks! I'm pretty much done with the low lying fruit. The fibreglass parts are arriving next week. I'll do a side by side, FG vs steel. Doors , hood, and deck.
