    Shipping Redux

I trust everyone is having a great summer. Mine seems to be dominated by fire as the Pacific NW and NorCal burn to the ground. Lots of smoke here but so far nothing too close. To go along with the theme, at the end of a vacation with my vintage Airstream there was a fire in the tow vehicle, 200 miles from home. It's taken a lot to sort that out but everything is fine now, ending with the trailer sold an a BMW X1.

I started a thread here a couple of years ago about shipping and I wanted to tack this post on to that thread but I can't find the damn thing. So, a new thread.

I have a question... If a customer pays for shipping and you offer him insurance and he refuses it, where do responsibilities begin and end. It seems intuitive that the seller's responsibility would end when the package is handed off to the shipper, but I learned not to trust intuitive long ago. What do you think?

    Thanks,
    John

Responsibilities always begin and end with the shipper. End of story. If you want insurance, then you should include it in the cost of shipping you quote to your customer. As we discussed last time, the payment processors have already made this decision for you. Neither Visa, MC, Discover, Amex, or Paypal will allow you to avoid responsibility by claiming refusal of insurance by the customer.
