Checking for Interest: Bastardized Cibie Bi-Iodes

    ** SOLD **

One of the challenges in restoring Cibie Bi-Iode headlamps is lens removal. I have tried many techniques and have gotten better at but there is still breakage. As a result you end up with a surplus of parts and a shortage of lenses. I have a stack of replated reflectors, both 170mm and 190mm reflectors, both low beam and high beam lying on a shelf. It seems like a shame for those reflectors to die on the shelf so I'm experimenting with other lenses with a bit of success but the original Cibie Bi-Iode lenases are unobtainium as far as I can tell.

What about this? A set of original and restored Cibie Bi-Iodes with Cibie lenses but not the same ones as used originally on the Cibies? Cibies are strong right now - I recently sold a set of 170mm Cibies that I had restored for a customer for $3,300.00. I think that's a little high but it was his asking price and he got it. I'm thinking these might be fairly priced at $1,800+/-. What do you think?

    Thanks,
    John

    John,
If a set of restored originals are worth $3300 I would have thought that you have answered your own question.
    ""no brainer"" from my perspective.

    Mark...

I think that sale was a bit of an outlier, but you're right. I found some great Cibié lenses for these, a derivative of the famous Z's. So these end up as fully restored genuine 170mm Cibié Bi-Iode headlights with later Cibié replacement lenses. My current thinking is that they will probably be around $1,800 which I think is still a bargain. It's getting hard to find comps as there are so few sales. I think I'm creating the most activity at the moment as cores appear to be pretty much unobtainium.

    Cheers,
    John
