Thread: Correct Seatbelts 1968

  1. #31
I need responses from owners of original 68 US cars with Hickok belts or my previous post might be obscured. I’m trying to answer specific questions. Can you tell me if your Klippans have a one piece or split end on the shoulder portion upper mount? If its one piece then tell me the bolt thread diameter if possible. Thanks I have found a third identical bolt in another one piece shoulder belt end. Somebody stop me!

My 1968 911 came with American Safety seat belts and has the mounting bolt with scored threads. Here are a few photos that might help:

So a 68 has larger diameter threads in the body for that bolt and the replacement pieces are all small diameter threads?

Rejuvenating an old thread instead of a new one.

For my '67 Targa, looking to add better seat belts than the repro lap belts currently in it.

What would have come original, ASE or REPA with the thumb release? On a Targa, where does the shoulder attachment attach?

Also, are there mounting points for rear lap belts?

    Thanks!

Got Partsklassic 3 point belts with hooks for all 3 points

Then I got the Stoddard shoulder pegs.

However the clasp doesn't fit around the peg. Ideas?Name: IMG20220906194312.jpg

I welded in the Restoration Design replacement shoulder mounts in my 68 912, they have a smaller thread diameter than the floor lap belt bolts. My belts look the same as the photo in post #2.

Since I am not doing a resto, just installing the seatbelts, I would rather not weld on a new mounting point or anything. Just trying to figure out how to get my current one to work with the belts that are out there. Appreciate the help!

There may be a picture in your owner's manual of shoulder belt installation and location. For 67 the shoulder belt anchorage bolt was set for an 8mm bolt. Starting in 68 ALL seat belt anchorages reverted to an SAE standard bolt of 7/16" X 20 . That became the world wide standard. When I did my 67 I just drilled out the 8 mm threaded insert and tapped it for 7/16 " X 20 so I could use the new seat belt standard bolts.

I'm going to take the interior trim panel off this weekend and test out an M8 bolt to see iff it fits. If not, I may drill it out like you did as it seems like it may be impossible to find the right bolt for the job....

Ps- not sure exactly how Partsklassic expects the shoulder clasp to connect as there doesn't appear to be a peg on the market that it will fit over...
