Changing chrome trims on pull down door pockets

Can someone please advise the order of action for changing all the chrome trim and riveted corner piece on a pull down door pocket from 69-73.

I have one of the Sierra Madre kits that I bought ages ago and wish to use on a door pocket that is a bit sad in the trim but elsewhere good.

I start with using a steamer to correct problems in the shape of the pocket. After steaming I use wood blocks and clamps to shape the pocket. After overnight remove clamps. The more effort you put into property shaping the cardboard the better the trim will work.

To install trim I use a soft wood block as an anvil and a rubber mallet. Make sure the trim is fully on the pocket before you use the mallet to close the channel on the cardboard.

As I have never replaced corner trim, I can not help with that. Rob

Thanks for that info, a mate of mine who saw your reply is going to do that on his pockets.

Fortunately my pockets are almost spot on just the chrome trims are a bit warped, dented, scratched so thought I would have a crack at replacing them.

I think I need to find the special rivets for the corner piece and a 2nd pair of hands.

Am I am right in assuming the top and side trims just slide under the edges of the corner trim?

Yes. I can't remember the details but I did a couple sets a few years ago and they came our well so it must have been simple...

I recently replaced these chrome trims on a friend's door pockets. This was my procedure.
    1. Push the shorter front (vertical) trim onto the leading edge of the pocket. Because of the acute bend on the bottom of the trim, it must be pushed on evenly, laterally (if that makes sense) As opposed to slid on.
    2. Slide the corner trim over & down the vertical trim.
    3. Place the front end of the longer (horizontal) trim about 20mm behind the corner trim and progressively slide it, maintaining a slight angle, under the recess of the corner trim. When fully inserted, lower and push the horizontal trim down onto the pocket edge, taking care not to bend the end curve. Slide it towards the corner trim to snug it up along the trailing edge of the folding pocket top.
Rivet the corner tab in place. I added a little clear craft glue onto edges of the pockets to ensure the trim stayed in place, but not too strong a bond to prevent damage-less removal of the trims if required later.
    Repeat!
No hand tools required, other than when attaching rivets

Spotlight - a local fabric / craft store. Sold as embellishments for jeans, clothing. Could only find silver ones, so painted them black after fastening.
