For the record another choice could have been Pirelli CA67 in 165's.

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

Here's hoping the XAS are actually available and in stock right now!
Thanks Arne, your comments earlier in the thread nudged me that direction, and a few follow up conversations confirmed this was the right choice for me. Looking forward to slapping these bad boys on the freshened up Fuchs to start driving my newly restored #1 car into an appropriate #2 condition!

Awesome news, I thought he lost his shop so I'm glad I got that wrong! Here is my full set of original Fuchs that he did for me last summer, can't wait to finally get 'em mounted up

Yes, that's the other truly period-correct choice. I didn't mention those because my current info on them is that they are in very short supply in the US now, if you can find them at all. My suspicion is that Pirelli is concentrating on the CN36, and not devoting much effort to the less glamorous CA67.

    The /6 has Avon
    The T cn36

Love them both. Period looks. Avon is a bit more sticky. Both drive just perfect on these cars.

    Both cars have deep 6x15

Just closing this thread out with a few pics of the final installation on the Michelin XAS’s in the original 165-15 fitment on my 1968 L. These are indeed V-rated and N spec, and are the closest to the original look I was going for. After installing the tires on the newly-refinished Fuchs from Harvey Weidman (and based on suggestions from this crowd!), I lowered the car a bit to give it a better stance. Here is a photo with the new tires before I lowered the car plus are a few pics after I dropped it down a bit, so thanks to everyone for all the great help!

Appreciate any feedback on your XAS’s. I’m considering these for my 69’ 912. Thanks!

These tires are fantastic on this car. Not only do they have the right “period-correct” look on the original Fuchs, they handle and ride really well. I’ve been taking advantage of our better weather to start doing some of my daily commute in Chester, which is 50-mile round trip highway commute to work in downtown Chicago, and these ride really well. I haven’t had a chance to really throw the car around on any twisties yet, but for great looks and excellent ride quality, I am really happy with these tires.

Good luck on your search and keep us posted on what you end up with!
