    Koni Struts Mystery

    Hi All,

I recently purchased two Koni struts for S Calipers. The numbers on the strut raise some questions. It look like the struts are early 1970 Koni struts to my opinion. Koni number: 90134108010 above this number is the 15-70 number (week 15 1970?). The other strut: 90134107910 (with a 29 70 mark)

The weird thing is the marking on the lower part of the strut: BILSTEIN 220/50 Does this make any sense?

The other mystery is the top cover it looks like a deeper version of the standard cover. With an outer screw thread and an inner one. Can anybody give a comment on this?

Sounds like a Bilstein valving number, but Bilstein didn't make inserts for a Koni strut,,,,at least that I've ever heard of.

It appears to be a Koni housing modified to use a Bilstein insert, and marked with the information.

Yes that’s probably it. So they adjusted the cap to fit bilsteins? So if I use the normal koni cap it will probably be possible to just use koni inserts.

There is no particular reason to use bilsteins in koni shocks right?

    Thank everybody for the input
