the dash is a cap, maybe the original is underneath, but then likely cracked or there would not be a cap.

The S tach redline starts at 7200, this has a T tach. No big deal, it probably got changed with the engine.

the seats would 99% sure not have cords inserts. I am still of the opinion that 1970 was the only year the S had standard sports seats in the US.

Sport seats were standard for MY '71 not '70 . The 700 mile '70S kills the standard sport seat theory for 1970 .

As does the original 70/71 parts manuals which clearly state what was standard and what was optional for 70/71S seating.

Judging by what I can see, I think it's likely the Odo rolled over or is maybe inop. Steering wheel is in a lovely state and I don't think 49k would produce that much wear.

Are you sure this is original paint? The bolts holding the rear latch in place seem to be painted over or is that just grease/ dirt?

It looks like the bolts were painted over and possibly some of the engine bay, rust proofing person did it?. The exterior of the car looks original though. (not that it matters, it's likely too far gone for preservation) I've uploaded two areas to get a better look at the paint. Also, I couldn't find any tape lines.

Don't think sport seats were standard on either 70' or 71' I've had multiple of both years and only owned one with sports seats, which was a targa. Also, this car has a metal deck lid, many think the aluminum was standard on 70's, but in all the 2.2L 911S or E cars I've had, none have ever had one.

The cord inserts I believe were correct, I've had a few cars with it, though much more common with out.

thanks for all the interest. Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday!

I've looked at this about 20 times and overall opinion is that this could be made into something. About the dash, looks like a cap, but if a replacement dash was ordered in period, it would not have the separate speaker grille. Sport seats were 1971. The missing motor just gives you a blank slate. 2.5 twin plug with PMO's would be very nice! Ditch the a/c, 6's and 7's, and vintage buckets and a roll bar. Done!

Believe me the thought has crossed my mind a few times. I agree with all of what you said except I’d have to keep the AC.

Price seems to reflect “S premium” but if it is missing its original engine (and/or trans), should the premium apply?

T E S and RS model all have price ranges based not only on originality but also condition/configuration. The price is reflective of the non original motor in this 911S in correlation to the condition/configuration.
