When you get the car you should kiss those towers, cause they saved you an easy $50K.

Looks to be a fantastic S all around, hope to hear about it more here.. Cheers!

Kiss them and then have it fixed by a pro and keep the invoice, because otherwise it will always be a point of discussion (e.g. if you want to sell the car) if not done properly.

Hi all.. I'm long overdue an update post here. The car was delivered promptly by Passport without any issues and as others who had seen it in person said - it indeed looks and drives fantastic. The paint is sharp and the interior very clean. More importantly, the chassis is straight as an arrow, stiff and with no signs of collision or rust damage that we've found. The engine appears to be in great shape - pulls like a train and revs like a champ. I absolutely love the extra power boost the S engine has above 5000rmp - so much fun on the twisties. I also keep getting amazed as to how quick this car is despite being made over 50 years ago - truly a testament to Porsche engineering.

Tony at Heyer Performance is my go-to Porsche specialist in the Bay Area Peninsula and knows these cars cold (highly recommended if others need a great mechanic locally). We found a handful of small mechanical and cosmetic things that needed to be addressed - resetting the front right headlight, fixing leaking fuel hoses, replacing wrong clutch pedal bushings, a few gaskets, a broken door stop, the distributor, some fuses, shifter knob, and correctly attaching the batteries. The two bigger surprises were a rusty gas tank and broken jump seat straps and rear shelf that needed to be replaced. But the car runs even better now with a new fuel filter and tank. So all in all, I'm very very happy with it. The two things outstanding are replacing the door and window seals on the passenger side that are causing some air noise at highway speeds and installing new tractable seatbelts for added safety.

As it relates to the "modified" strut towers - so far I have found no evidence they impact the car in any way. The handling is great and the car drives perfectly straight without any pulling whatsoever. I'm starting to debate if I even want to fix them and risk messing with the body. Any thoughts?

In any case, the car has brought many smiles already and we look forward to years of enjoyment. I also didn't appreciate how much love the car would get from folks who see it out and about. Here are some photos from last Saturday morning up on Skyline drive overlooking the Bay Area fog. My photography needs some work though . Cheers

Very nice! Happy to hear, was following that auction and happy to see it’s in good hands getting some proper mileage under its belt.

I purchased my long hood from Driver Source as well a few years back, we should get together some time once I’m back stateside.

My 2c: I wouldn‘t bother with the strut towers if you intend to keep the car… who’s going to know about it besides you when you’re driving those twisties anyway…
