    Question 300hp Side motor

    Kind of like a "side girl"... LOL...

    So what is a good recipe for a 300 hp motor for my old 911?

    A built 3.0 or 3.4-6?

    I want to pull the 2.4 out to have restored and put the hot motor in .... well a hot rod 911.

    My car is solid as a rock, BTW.

    There are numerous things to consider besides horsepower , the question is too nonspecific .

    Ok. I will bite. Side motor like this for the street is analogous to side girl: will cost you about as much as a divorce.

    There is a world of dif between a 260hp at the crank engine and 300hp in manners, cost
    Etc. That said:

    Method #1. Short stroke 2.8 built on an early (first gen)Carrera/930 case. 66mm crank, 10:1 JEs, Rsr sprint cams and 46 idas or MFI. NOTHING is stock. Supertec in ca has popularized these and there are quite a few out there. This is the Old School answer, revs lighting quick and is shockingly fast. And you wouldn’t think it runs on the street but many do. Note that you could build one on a later SC case but would need to find a 956 crank.

    Method #2. Go big. 3.6, big carbs, backdated exhaust, cam changes to something super sprint-ish. Revs slower but tons more torque. These engines are going up up up as well.

    what do you mean with "cam changes to something super sprint-ish"?

    I’m making 272hp at the crank on an engine dyno with my 2.8 early aluminum case motor. Lots of money thrown at it but it revs deliciously. 46 PMOs, twin plugged and flowed heads. Most fun you can have with your clothes still on.

    I really like the side girl analogy . Be prepare to spend more money than expected . If it was inexpensive and easy , everybody would have a "side motor " .

    2.4 short stroke I did made 210hp at crank and was an absolute blast to drive. If you want 300hp you spend double what is reasonable.

    What determines the difference in rev speed between various engine configurations. I keep hearing the 3.6 is "slower reving" or almost lazy, compared to other, generally smaller displacement engines. Is it a displacement issue, stroke?

    Stroke: 2.0/2.2 and 956 cranks were 66mm. Spins up a lot faster/capable of reving higher than later 70.4mm or longer cranks.
