    Brake fluid brand

    Hey all. Looking for what the professional shops use for brake fluid in the early Porsche models. Do you use the classic Porsche brake fluid from the parts department at the dealerships or something different? I was using a reputable high end fluid but recently ran into massive problems with a contaminated jug that I suspect has oil in it. There is something in it as I can see a clear separation in the old fluid as well as a sheen of something in the remaining new unused fluid.

    i always used Ate dot4. never had a problem

    Once you open a bottle degradation starts. I've always used ATE and have not had any problems although I miss the blue tint they used in the past, easier to see level.

    I think the US DOT said no to the blue color , too close to the silicone brake fluid color .

    Me too. Never keep opened and unused brake fluid. Never buy more than you need, as has been mentioned.

    For me it's motul RBF 660 - nothing else but keep in mind that more important than brand is age. I had a "moment" last sunday when on the 4th lap (5th including introduction) on Hockenheimring it boiled - it is 2 or 3 years since I changed it. I was still able to brake but needed 4 times pumping to get a little response.

    Every 2 years is fine fore a street car, but on a race car it should be purged before every weekend.

    For street cars, Castrol GT LMA is a good product that I use in my own vehicles, and there are many others such as the Ate fluid others have mentioned. The contamination you mention is a bit scary. If it came from a vendor with the contamination, I would have a serious chat with the vendor.

    If you use a product like RBF, please be aware that its borate ester chemistry is incompatible with the polyethylene glycol chemistry in DOT 3 and 4 fluids. So don't mix 'em, and if converting, get educated as to what's required.

    I don't know anyone who uses Porsche's fluid. You can be pretty certain that Porsche is reselling white labelled stuff someone else makes, they are not in the fluids business.

    the porsche non classic stuff comes in a can that looks exactly like that of pentosin.

    I use ate200 in the long hood and 914/6, but I don't track them.

    I use Brembo HTC64T or Endless in my 964 and gt4rs.

    Those cars get a partial bleed before any event. I bleed all my cars annually with oil changes otherwise.

    I hope there is no "contaminated" fluid in your system, any oil in a brake system will likely damage all seals in the system (they swell when in contact with mineral oil).

    brake fluid attracts moisture so you need to change regularly particularly if used/stored in a moist or humid environment, as water levels increase boiling point drops and boiling fluid means no brakes!
