Thread: Will the real Jade Green (227) please stand up.

Will the real Jade Green (227) please stand up.

We have a problem. We're about a month away from having our '73 hot-rod painted and the color we picked after much agony - paint code 227, the Jade Green used on one of the '74 IROC cars, may not be what we thought it was. When we had our painter spray a paint sample card in Glasurit, the color was much darker than any photo we have ever seen of a Jade Green 911. We had him do another spray using a different paint manufacturer - same color.

We've never actually seen a '73 or '74 Jade Green car in person, so now we're wondering if the color just comes across as lighter when you are looking at it on a computer. But on the other hand, we don't want to pick a color with some historical significance (minor though it is) only to find out later that our color mix was wrong for some reason.

Our latest thought is that we find someone in the registry that has an original paint '73 or '74 car and we send him one of our sample paint cards for him to hold against his car and we'll know for sure one way or another.

How about it, any of you 12 or so owners of an original paint Jade Green car willing to help us sort this mystery out? If so, shoot us a PM.

    Thanks,
    Rory and Lee

Jade Green is one of those colors that look dramatically different in different lighting.

    Here's a comp.

    6810/6868 Jade Green *SO 227

From the samples I have. It looks like Jade green is also called:
    Hellgrün 227 (from 1972)
    and
    Light Green 227

It doesn't appear too dark to me.
I looked to see if you could buy a sample of Dupont on eBay, but nothing there.
If you are in the San Jose, CA area. I can bring you a sample.

When my friend had his '73.T repainted, the painter sprayed out 5 or 6 different samples from several manufacturers, trying to match the original 324 Metallic Blue. None of the 6 were close to the color found under the paint tag and the sill cover, and none were very close to any other. Glasuit, Dupont, Sikkens, etc. Glasurit was an especially poor match, possibly the worst. He ended up doing a custom match as none of the formulas from the paint manufacturers were close enough.

You may be dealing with the same here, only without the advantage of having any factory color to match to.

I know-I know --- not the same as a real live car that you can touch, etc . . . but a pretty rare color, so consider this as something to gander at while you're waiting for a live/OG car to turn-up
