When I purchased my (used) aluminum deck lid, seller/PO stripped existing paint to show me the condition of the bare metal. It’s possible seller was unaware of the condition of metal.

Yes quite the conundrum this was not only stripped of paint (one surface) but also of any plastic filler or skim coat and of course he wasn't there when applied so how would he know other that an inspection with a magnet I guess.
Once the damage was unearthed though his assumption of underlying condition was out the window and that's what the sale was based on , so for those reasons he should be willing to step up and refund something if not a full return that thing is mangled !
Many not all here and other forums feel once it's out of there hands they wash their hands of it and that's all the responsibility they have , not so much ..if it fails to arrive in condition advertised you may be on the hook at minimal
ethically , oh yeah that , haha, YMMV , Bert
