Thread: 1967 911 Coupe - Replacing front & rear windshield seals

  1. #21
Yes the small clips that cover the ends of trim, will do ..
But mostly concerned with the fit of the trim at corners ….
Don't want to try the unit install if these are not flat enough?
Let me know if these need more work….

    Thanks
    Guys

    Exactly!
FYI-The aluminum filler strips go in the seal before the glass gets installed...

Don't even think about installing that. Installing it will NOT make the trim seat into the rubber. You have to make that fit the window opening perfectly! Are you using any lube on the rubber? You have to make the rubber slick. Liquid dishwashing soap will work. I use a silicone paste but the soap will work, you may just have to keep applying it as you work the trim in. There is a technique for squeezing the trim into the rubber, you MUST get the trim barb into the rubber slot. I start along a straight section and do the corners last. Once you get the process started it will tend to go right along, and the corners are HARDER. But you MUST get that trim barb all the way in the rubber slot. And you basically never touch the trim, to remove pull the rubber AWAY from the trim, and to install, as the picture shows, you push the rubber onto the trim.

There's a two rope method that makes it easier to install the rear windshield. See post starting #17 in 912 site, Other info in this thread also helpful

Ed’s info was excellent, finally got all edges and trim to fit …
Just installed and all went well….while everything is still lubed and can be adjusted slightly, does the rubber along the vertical edges just touch or slightly over the body edge……also at what point does it transition below the edge ?
See my photos …thanks for additional input…

Or better would be photos of an installed seal with close up details …

    Two useful videos:

Also, buy OEM seals from a respected Porsche dealer, some vendors are good at packaging OEM seals in bags with Porsche-looking packaging/labels. Also, the OEM seals I received from Porsche dealer have seams at bottom, whereas others I have in inventory, which I assume are AM, have seals on top. Do I have this right? Have others run into this?

The clips that cover the but ends of the trim must be in place before you put the window in so when done they just slide into place. they do no snap on. When I painted my car, my painter said to me that he did not care where I got the rubber kit. But when It came to the window seals he said he would go to the Porsche dealer for them.
