    perlon/felt 911R style headliner

    Hi hive mind,

I have a tear in my headliner, and my window and seals are only a few years old, so I am not in the mood to take them out and replace the seals again. My thought is i can save the hoops and put a vinyl one in it in several years, either if i want to repaint or replace the seals.

I understand the windows do not need to come out if i go with a perlon headliner, is this correct? Are there are cons to installing the perlon one vs vinyl? Any other issues i need to be aware of? Lastly, is there a recommended source?

I would have to think the perlon fabric still needs to be trimmed/cut/attached/glued the same as vinyl and therefore the seals would need to be removed...but perhaps I'm missing something about this optional material so that it would not be necessary...just can't visualize it though.

someone on pelican said that you can use a trim tool to stuff them under the seal since they dont fit the same way as the vinyl (ie glued to the roof instead of stretched like a drum). I wanted to double check on this though..

Seems the stretch and tuck process you describe may work - hopefully the tucked material won't pull out from one side as you stretch to the other...good luck!

I think you glue it to the top.. i would imagine you just glue it all in and get it to stick, then use the stoddard interior tool to stuff the ends once its glued?

Still looking for pros and cons.. will there be issues since the stock roof ventilation is blocked? will there be additional heat or discomfort because of how its mounted (trapping hotter air or will the heat of the sun hitting the roof be more noticeable)? Who has them?

If your seals are as new as you say your windows will come out easily. Just push in the top corner and it will push right out or you can rope it out if you're afraid it might break. I do it all the time. -Scott

911R headliners are abbreviated. I wrote about them in my project car series in Esses (Part 16). I bought felt at JoAnn's.

    Anyway, here's the R at Rev's -- 11899005R

Haven't driven the car yet; I expect it will be loud.

I put the red felt, like the R’s used in my race car conversion back to the street. The hope was to reduce the drumming. Works to my expectations.

Interesting thread as I'm debating this for my 67S race car. Does anyone know what tpe of weight savings can be had by removing the
    headliner?
